Start With a Contact Lens Exam in Our Office

Are you thinking about making the switch from traditional eyeglasses to contact lenses? If so, then we encourage you to begin with a contact lens exam in our office. These exams are different from your "typical" eye exam because they're focused primarily on ensuring you're a viable candidate for contact lenses and, if so, which type of lenses will be best suited for your needs and lifestyle.

During your contact lens exam with our Winchester optometrist, we'll assess the health and shape of the eye as well as the lens and cornea. This will help us determine whether you have any eye or vision conditions that may affect your ability to wear contacts comfortably. For example, if you have astigmatism (abnormal curvature of the lens), you may not be able to achieve a comfortable fit with regular contact lenses.

Hard-to-Fit Contacts and Other Options Available

The good news is that even if you do have an eye or vision condition that makes wearing regular contacts difficult, Winchester Optical also offers a wide range of hard-to-fit contacts and other options to suit your specific needs. For those with conditions like astigmatism, dry eyes, GPC, presbyopia, or keratoconus, we may be able to assist you by providing specialty lenses. Some of the options we offer for hard-to-fit contacts include:

  • Gas permeable lenses
  • Toric lenses
  • Bifocal and Multifocal lenses

No matter what type of contact lens ends up being ideal for your needs, our optometry and optical team can help you make the transition as comfortable as possible. We'll even walk you through the process of learning how to properly clean and take care of your lenses, as well as inserting and removing them. Ultimately, we want to make sure you're comfortable with handling your lenses for a smooth transition and comfortable wear.
